In this serious game students emergency medicine are confronted with seriously ill patients. Errors are, unlike in real life, not fatal but serve as learning moments. The player learns to deal with stress and pressure and uses the ABCDE method to accurately identify illness and eventually stabilise the patient’s health.

The translation of the actual interaction between the equipment and the player to an intuitive digital interaction using only a screen and a mouse as input.

This interactive installation guides the visitors of Museum Volkenkunde through the Native Americans of the North West exhibition. It engages the visitor through a quiz which can be played throughout the exhibition encouraging the visitor to gather information about the exhibit in order to answer the questions.

Designing a forgiving and user-friendly system that takes all the visitor’s actions in account. Actions like walking away from the screen, playing together and wrong answers.

This game is part of adhd.nl, a platform for youngsters (age 12-16) who are diagnosed with ADHD. In this game the player runs through a number of stories. Each player follows a different storyline based on the choices he makes. At the end of the story the player gets targeted feedback and tips regarding the choices he made during the game.

Creating a system in which the user follows a storyline from beginning to end with enough sidesteps, shortcuts and choices to create a feeling of freedom.

Sterkwater is a website where youngsters share their own story about urban life based on a predetermined theme. This theme is chosen by an ambassador who, after writing the first story himself, invites his Facebook friends to share their stories too.

The Sportlab game is part of an item in the television program Klokhuis. In this item Klokhuis examines how to get better in sports and professional athletes give tips on how to enhance your sport performance. This game tests and improves the sportsmanship of children. They can play against each other and their results are collected in their Sportlab passport. With a variety of assignments, tups and exercises, children will discover how they can get better at jumping, throwing, balancing, etc.

Green Kids is a television program in which Lodewijk the gardener experiences nature in a playful manner together with the Green-Kids. On the website, children can ask questions to Lodewijk, find lecture materials, find events in their neighbourhood and sign up their school for the ‘Greenest Classroom of The Netherlands’ election.

During my graduation year Communication & Multimedia Design I explored the possibilities for future interaction scenarios using near field communication. As a result of my research I created a prototype for a mobile application which brings the visitors and the festival closer together through a combination of Near Field Communication and different gamification elements.

I came up with new scenarios in the fields of payment, shopping, product information, travel and advertising and ended up combining these scenarios into a future vision for the Picnic Festival.

Biggest challenge

Besides making 1 photo a day it was an enormous job to get all 365 photo’s nicely arranged into a book with just 160 pages.

During my specialisation year in ‘Information & Interaction’ at the study Communication & Multimedia Design I researched the information services of scuba divers and imagined how these services could look like in 10 years. I visualised the research and it’s results in an infographic and for the final product (an underwater navigation system) I created a design document and a small prototype.

About

During my study Communication & Multimedia Design at the Academy of Media & User eXperience (AMUX) in Breda I discovered my passion for interaction design, technology and the future.

Throughout the many team-based projects I gathered a broad creative knowledge base of communication, interaction, technology, design and strategy. Projects consisted of interactive products and services that helped people to learn, live and work more effectively, easier and with more fun. Examples are an interactive installation for children in a museum or a game for hospital staff.

Because of this study I am, besides interaction design, employable at every stage of development in a creative project. Analysis, concept development, research, design and production.
